Pincombe Pond planting - October 5, 2019

Project type:
Park Naturalization
Year:
2019
Season:
Fall
Location:
Southwest

On Saturday October 5, we kicked off our public community plantings on a perfect fall planting day at Pincombe Pond. A chilly morning turned into a bright sunny day that was the perfect temperature for planting trees: both cool enough to work and warm enough for comfort. Between six community groups and many residents of the city at large, we had 70 volunteers who planted 343 trees in only 2 hours! The trees planted here will improve water quality and screen the pond from city views to create a nature lover’s haven, and should be loved by the wildlife that surrounded us in the water, sky, and grass as we worked.

A huge thank you to this event’s funders: the City of London, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, and Citi. Your contribution will directly impact everyone’s enjoyment of Pincombe Pond as the trees planted there grow and provide the benefits that this project was planned and planted for. Our last thank you is for our volunteers who made this happen: way to go, and don’t forget to enjoy this area!

We hope to return to Pincombe soon to finish off this project by planting on the pond’s other side, improving water quality even further and adding to the privacy screen we started this fall. We’re grateful to work on sites like this one, and add the trees planted there to our 1,000,000 tree goal!
