This month, we are highlighting our two Environmental Programs Assistants that are helping to make our tree planting events, tree giveaways, aftercare and hikes a reality this fall. Meet Aliena and Rachel!
Name: Aliena Hoskins
My name is Aliena and I have been working as an Environmental Programs Assistant with ReForest London this fall. I have just graduated from the School of Environment, Resources, and Sustainability, at the University of Waterloo with a Bachelors of Environmental Studies. During my time so far with ReForest London I have helped out with Celebration Forest, the fall Tree Depots, and I have assisted with some park plantings. As well, I will lead various hikes in different parks around London to help the public learn more about tree identification and local ecosystems. I have really enjoyed seeing how many people we have been able to make a meaningful connection with through our different tree programs. It is great to see how many people are passionate about trees in the local community and to help people continue to learn.
Name: Rachel Rensby
Hi, my name is Rachel. I am delighted to join the ReForest London team for the Fall 2020 season. I have been a volunteer with Reforest London for 2 years and am excited to expand my work with the organization. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences from the University of Guelph, an interdisciplinary program that focused on topics such as ecology and ecosystem health, scientific communication and environmental economics. I love being outdoors, baking and learning new things!
I have been working on the Park Naturalizations, helping coordinate and complete all of the park plantings and aftercare events this fall. My favourite part about working at ReForest London is that I get to connect with the community while directly making positive impacts on the environment. It is amazing to have people out on their weekends as excited to plant trees as I am! Also, I get to see so many beautiful parks in London that I otherwise wouldn’t know exist. Knowing that I am contributing to a greener future for our Forest City gives me pride in my work every day.
