For the fifth year in a row, Convertus has illustrated their commitment to a greener and more resilient community by sponsoring and hosting a successful fruit tree giveaway!
On a sunny, warm Saturday in early October, teams from ReForest London and Convertus arrived at early to set up the beautiful fruit trees to be given away that morning at Convertus’ Commissioners Road West office location.
“Planting trees is paramount to preserving our environment as they provide oxygen, improve air quality, conserve water, preserve soil and support wildlife,” said Mohammed Salama, Operations Director at Convertus. “Supporting ReForest London, aids to Convertus Group goals of building a sustainable future though providing trees to our communities that endorse our vision for the conditions of the environment. Seeing a great turnout from the community involved and wanting to plant trees to sustain our environment was the best part of the day.”
Londoners love their trees and with so many people eager to try growing their own fruit these trees will help them learn the process and hopefully harvest many fruits over the years to come. A bonus with fruit trees is that they all have beautiful flowers each spring! This giveaway included 19 different varieties of domestic apples, peaches and pears as well as some native fruit-producing trees including serviceberry and highbush cranberry.
“Our fruit tree depot with Convertus was an overwhelming success,” said Maddy Sansom, Community Projects Manager at ReForest London. “We brought over 200 native and domestic fruit-producing trees and shrubs and left with an empty trailer. People were lined up around the corner 45 minutes before the event began and thankfully, we had just the right amount of trees- nobody left empty-handed!”
“As a group, giving back to the community with the help of ReForest London is something we look forward to each year at Convertus,” said Ann-Marie Cooper, Human Resources and Communications Manager at Convertus. “I can’t wait until we reach our next milestone of 10 years!”
“It is so wonderful to know that Londoners are eager to grow their own fruit and it is a really amazing way to support the community and address food insecurity in the city,” said Maddy Sansom, “We are already planning our 2023 depots and we welcome new hosts every season and we are always looking for new ways to reach more communities all over the city.”
Thank you Convertus and thanks to all of our tree recipients, donors and volunteers who made our 2022 tree giveaway season a success!
