Wasn't That A Party!
A Toast to Trees, London’s celebration of trees, was a fun, inspiring event complete with live jazz music, tree mood lighting and local wine and beer. The program and event slide show illustrated the impressive number of actions Partners and supporters are taking to grow this green legacy for London. It is always nice to get together with like-minded people to celebrate the accomplishments of London’s Million Tree Challenge and acknowledge contributions from Partners and supporters.
This year, the first Million Tree Challenge Awards were presented to honour five well-deserving supporters of a greener, healthier city. Created from locally sourced, kiln dried black walnut with a clear acrylic plaque to feature the beautiful wood grain, the awards were presented to: London Life (Solid Oak Award), CLC Tree Services (Forest City Builder Award), TD Friends of the Environment Foundation (Digging In Award), Western Serves (Tree Team Award) and Matthew Juszczynski (Tree Hero Award). For a detailed list and description of each award see this page.
A big thank you to Million Tree Challenge Partners who stepped up and sponsored an aspect of the event! We couldn’t host such a wonderful evening if it wasn’t for: TLC Landscaping, TRY Recycling, London District Energy – Veresen, Arthur Lierman Landscape Architecture, and Horizon Leadership. Also a big thank you to our Partners who gave in-kind support: Toboggan Brewing Co., SixFive Interactive and Bonafide Events Studio.
We would also like to thank Business London Magazine for their support of the Million Tree Challenge through our double page MTC Partner thank you ad in October’s Business London.
Thank you also to Goodwill Industries for the great space, food and service, and to the Tony DeLuca Jazz Trio for their wonderful music throughout the event. Thank you also to Horizon Solutions for the moody tree lighting set up, to Amy Muschik for the excellent event photography, and to Snapd London for your coverage of the event.
There was good attendance at this year’s event and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The Media Wall was a big hit – in keeping with the awards theme – and people had fun taking photos of themselves with various props and tweeting them out. Congratulations to Summer Burton who tweeted the image (right) to her network and had the most retweets with seven. Summer is the recipient of a tree gift in the Celebration Forest. See our gallery of images below!
Thank you to everyone who attended! Your presence shows your support for a greener London - for now and for the future of our city. We trust that you were inspired by actions large and small taken by Londoners to keep the Forest in the Forest City. Please take some time to think about how you may contribute to tree planting in London in 2017. We look forward to working with you on a wide variety of projects that all help get trees in the ground and counted toward London's Million Tree Challenge.
