Southwest Optimist Park

Project type:
Park Naturalization
Year:
2013
Season:
Spring
Location:
Southwest

On Saturday May the 11th ReForest London had 34 volunteers out to plant 421 trees and shrubs in yet another successful park naturalization project, this time at the Southwest Optimist Park out on Southdale Road. Although the day was chilly, the sun shone down on us as holes were chipped out of the clay heavy ground in the north end of the park extending the already naturalized area that was planted last year. When the planting was done we were all amazed that so many trees took root in such a short time in such a difficult digging situation.SW Optimist
The naturalization project was sponsored by the TD Friends of the Environment and by Envirionment Canada with a core of volunteers supplied by the Western University Alumni Association. A big thanks goes out for their support of naturalization projects which grow our biodiversity, building rich communities for bird and humans alike.

Special thanks go out to our hard working Tree Gurus Jim Williams, James Patten, Gary Brown, and Jessica Lompart; Justin and brother Jason Bardawill of Alchemy Operation for logistics, as well as the dedicated ReForest London volunteers who made this project possible.
