River Forks East

Project type:
Park Naturalization
Year:
2009
Season:
Fall
Location:
Central

Despite a light mist, over 60 neighbours and students spent the afternoon planting more than 400 trees and shrubs in two locations in River Forks Park. First, in an area known as "Lawyer's Hill" we planted 200 trees and shrubs. We preserved the tobaggan hill and bike paths, but filled in the rest of this bowl shaped area to create new naturalization.

Next, we went back to an area next to the Navy prevost that we originally naturalized in 2006. This is one of ReForest London's most successful projects due in large part to the excellent soil conditions and the support of the neighbourhood. We expanded the original planting area by adding another 225 plants.

Students participating in the University of Western Ontario's Western Serves day were enthusiastic hard workers. After the trees were planted, they moved on to removing invasive species and picking up litter in the park.
