Seeking Action Team Members for Million Tree Challenge

We are looking for "do-ers" to join the Million Tree Challenge Action Teams to implement tree-planting initiatives throughout the City.

The Million Tree Challenge seeks to inspire Londoners to plant one million trees during the next 10 years. Launched in June, the project was initiated by Founding Partners ReForest London and the City of London, and has over 30 corporate, institutional, and community partners.

The City of London and ReForest London will support these Action Teams with staff, marketing, fundraising, and other resources. Each Action Team will meet approximately once per month, with the meeting dates and locations set by the members of the team.

More information about the Action Teams, including who to contact to confirm your interest in serving, is below.

More information about the Million Tree Challenge is available at www.milliontrees.ca.

Action Team Descriptions and Contact Information
Residential Trees - This Action Team will focus on getting trees planted in residential areas, which comprise 40% of the "plantable" space in the City of London. Tree sales, tree giveaways, and educational campaigns about benefits of tree planting and care are some of the initiatives this team will oversee. Please contact Julie Ryan, ReForest London, at 519-936-9548 x221 or julie@reforestlondon.ca for more information or to confirm your interest in serving on this team.

Industrial, Institutional, Commercial, and Rural Lands - This Action Team will focus on tree planting initiatives on industrial, institutional, commercial, and rural lands, which comprise 30-40% of the "plantable" space in the City of London. These initiatives might include naturalization projects with land owners and their employees or other volunteers, or connecting land owners with the programs available for them to plant trees themselves. Please contact Sara Rowland, City of London, at 519-661-2500 x4490 or srowland@london.ca for more information or to confirm your interest in serving on this team.

Parks and Natural Areas - This Action Team will focus on planting more trees in our parks and natural areas, as well as city-owned boulevards. These areas include both public and private lands. The Action Team will work to identify new areas and new partners for implementing large and small scale naturalization projects. Please contact Amber Cantell, ReForest London, at 519-936-9548 x224 or amber@reforestlondon.ca for more information or to confirm your interest in serving on this team.

Tree Retailers and Landscapers - This Action Team will focus on initiatives for tree retailers and landscapers to promote tree planting and care throughout the city. These might include special sales and offers for trees and tree planting and tagging trees to encourage participation in the Million Tree Challenge.
