ReForest London is Growing

ReForest London is growing! With the launch of the Million Tree Challenge, we are realigning the energies of our organization toward this "audacious" but achievable goal. The Million Tree Challenge will transform our city and give London the forests worthy of being the Forest City. The challenge is not an easy one, but ReForest London is ready with a new focus and new staff.

The Million Tree Challenge is such an important initiative for ReForest London and its partners, that Julie Ryan, who has been serving as Executive Director since 2007, will now be devoting all her time and energy to its success. As Program Manager, she will develop and support new programs within the Million Tree Challenge, and continue to be the primary fundraiser for the organization.

"Planting a million trees in the next 10 years is a huge community undertaking," Julie said. "I am thrilled to be able to devote more of my energies to the challenge as we green The Forest City for future generations."

Dean Sheppard, who helped found ReForest London in 2005 and has served on the board since ReForest London's incorporation in 2007, has been named Executive Director for a one-year period as the organization assesses its long-term needs.

"It's very exciting for me to be able to continue to support the great work of ReForest London in this new way. ReForest London has always achieved great things with its small staff complement, and with Julie's focus on Million Tree Challenge, I'm confident London will continue to be wowed by our impact." said Dean.

Always looking to grow our impact, we have two new staff on a 6-month Job Creation Partnership contracts starting in late January. Elaine van Tol will serve as ReForest London's Project Assistant, assessing new project locations, managing aftercare, and developing a project database for ongoing management of our growing list of projects.

Also joining ReForest London this winter is Jessica Danard, who will serve as Community Engagement Coordinator. In this position, Jessica will bring ReForest London to Londoners - through the schools, community events, festivals, social media, and other events and opportunities, and develop and maintain a volunteer management program.

Watch for our growing presence in the community as we promote tree planting and care through the Million Tree Challenge. We'll be hosting tree planting events at parks, schoolyards and neighbourhoods, and we will work with our partners to plan other events, such as tree sales and give-aways to make it easy for Londoners to plant and care for trees in your community.

Meanwhile, visit www.milliontrees.ca and pledge to plant a tree this coming spring. Our first goal is One Tree for Every Londoner, so everyone in your family can be a part of planting a healthy future for London.
