National Volunteer Week 2020

National Volunteer Week

This week is National Volunteer Week, and this year's theme is "It's time to applaud this country's volunteers." While we applaud our volunteers throughout the year, this is a great time to highlight the amazing, selfless work they do to make our city a healthier, more livable place.

As a grassroots organization, ReForest London has depended on the power of the community since Day 1, and volunteers continue to be a vital part of keeping the “forest” in the Forest City. Volunteers assist with a wide range of tasks, from planting and caring for trees, to helping residents choose the right tree for their yard, to educating people about trees and our programs, and more. We welcome individuals of all ages, as well as families, community groups and corporate groups to get involved, by creating low-barrier and inclusive opportunities to join us in planting and caring for trees.

Given the COVID-19 crisis, we are also cognizant of the work that other volunteers do in London and across Canada, supplying essential services to support the health and well-being of others. We applaud all volunteers who are helping in any way they can. Although most of our volunteer opportunities are on hold for the time being, the impact they’ve made will grow over time, as the trees they’ve planted continue to provide wildlife habitat, store carbon and provide shade for years to come.

In honour of #NVW2020, we were pleased to contribute to a publication put together by the London and Area Association for Volunteer Administration (LAVA), celebrating the many organizations in the city that work with volunteers. Click here to see it (we're on page 9)!

If you are a volunteer, past or present, with ReForest London, we sincerely thank you for sharing your love of trees and the environment with us, and for supporting our mission of planting, growing and sustaining the urban forest by engaging our community.
