Business Leaders Dig in for Million Tree Challenge

Leaders from London’s business community planted 100 trees on June 5 to show their support and challenge others to London Million Tree Challenge. The group of more than 25 leaders represented the Chamber of Commerce, London Development Institute, the Urban League of London, London and St. Thomas Association of REALTORS, and the London Home Builders Association.

The five organizations said jointly, “Our organizations have come together today to support the Million Tree Challenge. While our organizations represent a diverse group of stakeholders, we all share a deep passion for our City’s well being and commitment to making London the best City it can be. We challenge all sectors of our community to come together and support the Million Tree Challenge. It’s time to stop talking and to start planting!”

The trees were planted at Byron View Park, a west-end park, and will be recorded on the Million Tree Challenge website, a site tracking London’s progress toward its 10-year goal. The Million Tree Challenge was launched last year with founding parnters ReForest London and the City of London. Over 50 partners have now committed their support to the goal, and organizers invite other organizations to join the challenge.

“The leadership and cooperation of these new Million Tree Challenge partners is inspiring,” said Dean Sheppard, Executive Director of ReForest London. “We all know the vast benefits trees and woodlands give us in improving the health, environment and quality of life in London - and that's the common interest we all share. I am very excited at the potential we have just uncorked to keep the forest in the Forest City.”
