Local Canon Crew Shoots a Record Number of Plants in Ground at McCormick Park

Project type:
Corporate Sponsored Projects

A small but skillful work team from Canon planted 180 trees in under 90 minutes at McCormick Park on Tuesday October 7. The dedicated team worked through the drizzling rain to get the mountain of plants in the ground and extend the naturalization area at the park which ReForest London has been working on since 2012.

The tree planting event in London was supported by Canon Canada. This fall more than 1000 Canon staff will be joining Evergreen and local community partners for 26 events across the country, to support the planting of 20,000 native trees and shrubs. Evergreen engaged ReForest London to lead the planting event at McCormick Park.

Ashley Kimber from Evergreen who organized the planting event on Tuesday, said that the planting “commemorates the partnership of Canon and Evergreen and shows Canon staff the difference the company is making in the community and for the environment.” Evergreen is a non-for-profit organization working across Canada to make cities more livable by connecting the community with nature.

“It is great to give back to the environment as we see a lot of waste from using paper all day,” said Sam Cuzzocrea, a serviceman for business solutions. “It’s a renewable resource and we need to plant trees to replace our usage. When this opportunity came up, my coworkers and I thought it would be great to be involved.”

Jason Snowden, Sales Manager, commented, “Canon is doing this initiative across the country and I wanted to get involved and get out of the office. It’s great for the chance to give back.”

“It’s nice to come out here and to be outside helping,” said Bill Kozac, another team member.

It’s clear that the team enjoyed the fresh air and the chance to get away from the office for the afternoon. Luckily the speedy team was finished before the rain really set in and, after a group cheer, headed home to share their success story with friends and family.
