Kipps Lane West Tree Blitz - Sept 9

Project type:
Neighbourhood Re-Leaf
Year:
2017
Season:
Fall
Location:
Northeast

It was a beautiful, sunny Saturday to start off Neighbourhood ReLeaf’s fall season with a Tree Blitz in Kipps Lane West! In the morning, the RFL team set up headquarters in the parking lot of St. Lawrence Presbyterian Church at 910 Huron Street, beside Ed Blake Park. Soon after, a bus full of 43 Western Orientation Serves volunteers rolled up, and these enthusiastic students quickly got to work assembling wagon teams. The headquarters was a buzz with energy and laughter, and only a few bees joined the party.

As a mini, mobile forest rolled out with the wagon teams to go door to door, some residents stopped by the headquarters location to pick from the remaining tree species. By the end of the event, 132 trees had been given out by the volunteers and taken home by residents, significantly impacting the neighbourhood’s environment, and improving the well-being of all residents.

A huge thank you goes out to the Western Orientation Serves volunteers, the ReForest London volunteers, and the St. Lawrence Presbyterian Church for helping us start off the season with such a successful event!
