Home Hardware Plants 200 Trees!

Project type:
Million Tree Challenge

Home Hardware planting group

This year, 35 Home Hardware locations across Canada will participate in tree planting initiatives across Canada. Over the past 21 years, Home Hardware has partnered with Tree Canada to improve green spaces across the country, planting over 17 000 trees valued at over $800,000.
In London, in celebration of National Tree Day on September 25th, Million Tree Challenge Partner, Home Hardware Building Centre - London East, planted 200 trees at Sovereign Woods! Owner, Dave Kirk said “Our planting went very well we had a great turnout from St Pius X elementary school with 47 kids in total from Jillian Strybosch's grade 5/6 class and Peter Misek's grade 4/5 class.”Home Hardware planting

“We planted 200 trees including Red Maple, Sugar Maple, Serviceberry, Hackberry and Red Oak,” Kirk noted, “with great help from Upper Thames River Conservation Authority who looked after the organizing and site location with the city of London. Karen from UTRCA explained to the students prior to the tree planting the types of trees and also how to plant the trees and why we add mulch as part of the planting.”

Dave Kirk adds, “It was a great experience to have a local school being able to take part in our tree planting and being able to work with so many energetic children.”
