Growing Initiatives

Growing trees is one of the most rewarding activities a person can do, and there are several ways Londoners are getting involved with tree growing to help support the Million Tree Challenge.

Greenhouse Partnerships

ReForest London is proud to be partnering with local not-for-profit greenhouses to grow seedlings for use in a variety of Million Tree Challenge initiatives.

To date, over 2,000 native tree seedlings have been grown by our greenhouse partners for this program, which include the Friends of the Civic Gardens, Saunders Secondary, and St. Thomas Aquinas.

The seedlings grown by our greenhouse partners have gone on to be used in a variety of Million Tree Challenge initiatives, including our Green Wagon program, seedling giveaways at events such as the Western Fair, and as a thank you for volunteers at our planting events to take home.

If you or your organization has greenhouse space and would be interested in growing seedlings for the Million Tree Challenge, please contact Katie Van Den Berg, Community Engagement Coordinator, at katie@reforestlondon.ca or 519-936-9548 x221.

Seed Collecting

We are currently in the process of developing a seed collection program to assist us in our propagation efforts.

We expect to hold 2 or 3 seed collection events in London parks each year, with a focus on collecting from species' whose seed that is relatively easy to store, such as maple, oak, cedar, ironwood and pine.

If you would be interested in helping us go out to collect seed, or have access to a facility where we could store seed over winter, please contact our Community Engagement Coordinator, Katie Van Den Berg, at katie@reforestlondon.ca or 519-936-9548 x221.
