Fairmont Park - May 6, 2017
Kaitlin, Brad, and Victoria were thrilled that 24 volunteers came out to help restore a black oak savanna even though it was quite cold and rainy. The volunteers powered through the 205 trees, planting them all before noon! Following the planting, everyone came together to enjoy cupcakes, snacks, and a couple group photos before heading home to warm up!
Restoring black oak savanna is extremely important in Ontario as less than 3% of these ecosystems remain and those that are still around are heavily fragmented. This event was essential in restoring Fairmont Park's historical ecosystem structure.
We love the passion and enthusiasm these volunteers brought for the event and hope to see you all again soon!
Thank you to Frank for all of his help throughout the restoration process and to the Ontario150 Community Celebration Program, the City of London's Park in Every Ward Project, and the Government of Canada's EcoAction program!
