Bradley Road near Westminster Ponds ESA

Project type:
Park Naturalization

Fall 2006

Mark Jansen had an abundance of red oak acorns that had dropped from his tree. He threw them in a pile. The next spring, he noticed that many had sprouted. He put them in plastic cups and cared for them throughout the summer. Then he called ReForest London to see if we wanted them.

We looked around for an appropriate location, and with the help of the City of London, found one near the Westminster Ponds ESA, off Bradley Road near the South Pond. With the help of about 25 volunteers, we planted all the seedlings, along with some larger trees (4 Kentucky Coffee Tree seedlings and 12 poplar and silver maple trees) to shade the new saplings as they grow.

One tree, one person, and one organization has planted a forest!
